Daveyton Mall, one of the first township shopping centres developed in SA, is undergoing a R90.4 million upgrade.

Located in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, the mall opened in 1993 with more than 60 shops. The upgrade is being undertaken by Vukile Property Fund, a listed REIT. The upgrade includes modernising all shopper-facing areas, the remodelling of the Eiselen Street exterior facade, additional tenant signage, improved vehicle-traffic flows, the implementation of energy-saving interior and exterior lighting, new tiling and upgraded bathrooms. Its retail area will be increased by about 2 000 m2. The centre will also feature free WiFi access and a standby generator.

This investment in the mall’s strategic upgrade ‘will ensure it is optimised for the next generation of shoppers’, says Vukile CEO Laurence Rapp. ‘We have settled on the best possible scheme to add value to a key asset, and we are confident this upgrade is a good, low-risk, defensive investment in an excellent asset that serves a great community.’

The upgrades are expected to be complete by December 2021.
