The country’s top developments were honoured recently in a virtual award ceremony held by the South African Property Owners Association. The Property Development Awards for Innovative Excellence recognise significant contributions to SA’s built environment, based on quality, functionality and the impact on cities and towns. The Connexxion, the Centurion headquarters of Exxaro and owned by Growthpoint Properties, took top honours. The 18 500 m2, 6-star Green Star-rated building was announced as the overall winner, in addition to garnering sustainability and best corporate office awards.

The event also proved to be a coup for the iconic 32 on Kloof, which won the Heritage award as well as the best refurbishment category. Originally built in 1922, the 11 000 m2 building serves as the facade of Cape Town’s Kloof precint and is a considered blend of historical and contemporary influences.

Other winners on the night included Towers Main (mixed-use category and overall transformation award), Constantia Emporium (retail development – small boutique category), and the Base (interior award).
